It’s National Science Week!
It’s National Science Week 15-24th March & the kitchen is a fantastic experimental laboratory.
Food preparation is like a science experiment. If you can follow a recipe, you should get something close to what you set out to make, because often the ingredients will interact with each other to make something new. This is the very definition of a chemical reaction.
Have you tried making bread? The yeast mixes with the sugar and warm water to create carbon dioxide which makes your dough GROW. Or how about mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and make a sandwich bag explode?
Here are 3 of my favourite food science experiments. Leave a comment if you have other ideas, and I’ll add them to my list, or email me and I’ll forward you instructions so you can have fun in the kitchen too!
- Bread Bubble Bomb
- Carbon Dioxide Rocket
- Magic inflating balloon
