Sept 2009 Leighton Buzzard Today newspaper: "Kids' Tasty Course!" A Leighton mum is set to serve up the next generation of budding Jamie Oliver's– with a revolutionary new cooking course for children. Charlotte Carr’s brilliant Kiddy Cook programme, which teaches 4 to 11 year olds about ‘good’ food, is aiming to tackle childhood obesity too.
Kiddy Cook, already recognised by the Department of Health and currently thriving elsewhere in the UK, teaches children about healthy food in a fun way, which beats the old home economics lessons many endured at school. And the good news is that Leighton children are about to be served a healthy slice! Charlotte, of Brooklands Drive, also gets the kids conducting ‘volcano’ experiments to learn how carbon dioxide works in making cakes rise, as well as teaching them about the effect sound has on their ability to eat – you try eating a banana with someone crunching crisps in your ear.

With an additional class for 2 to 4 year olds called CookieTots, where parents help the kids with easy recipes centred around music, games and activities, Charlotte has all the bases covered. “The classes are really fun and interactive– and you get to take home what you cook” she said. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Find a class in Leighton Buzzard or a Kiddy Cook class near you. What about running your own Kiddy Cook classes?

August - December 2009 From the garden to the table Kiddy Cook invites all budding chefs to our pick & cook sessions at Tatton Park during July, August, September & October. The children visit the walled garden where they learn about the fruit and vegetables grown there. They get to pick all their own ingredients and take them back to Tatton's Victorian Kitchen where they prepare and cook something to take home. These sessions always prove very popular (Saturdays July 18th & September 12th are already fully booked) so if you'd like to come along early booking is advisable. Contact Nikki on 07976 619 648.

May 2009 Kiddy Cook at Red House Farm We had great fun at Red House Farm ( www.redhousefarm.co.uk) during the Bank Holiday weekend along with a host of local speciality producers, and the pick of the best from a little further a field. Whilst the grown-ups sat back and enjoyed the fun in the demo kitchen (with inspiration this year coming from ITV's Brian Mellor and Manchester's chef of the Year Lisa Walker) the children enjoyed making home made butter and having fun with gastronomic experiments to include foaming volcanoes and exploding rockets!
